Dental Bridges

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the natural teeth on either side of the gap. The bridge consists of two or more crowns on the anchor teeth (called abutments) with an artificial tooth (called a pontic) suspended between them. The result is a seamless restoration that fills the gap and restores both function and appearance.

Bridges can replace missing teeth in both the front and back of the mouth. They are permanently cemented in place, so they feel and function like natural teeth. Unlike removable partial dentures, you do not take a bridge out for cleaning or sleeping.

The Bridge Process

Getting a dental bridge typically requires two visits. At the first appointment, the abutment teeth are prepared by removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the crowns. Impressions are taken and sent to a dental lab where your custom bridge is fabricated. A temporary bridge protects your teeth while you wait.

At the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed and the permanent bridge is checked for fit, color, and bite. Once everything looks and feels right, the bridge is cemented permanently in place. With our CEREC technology, some bridges can be completed in a single visit.

Caring for Your Bridge

A dental bridge can last 10 to 15 years or longer with proper care. Brushing twice daily and flossing are essential. You will need to use a floss threader or Bridge-Aid floss to clean underneath the pontic where food and plaque can accumulate. Regular dental checkups allow us to monitor your bridge and catch any issues early.

If you are missing one or two teeth and want a fixed, permanent solution, a dental bridge may be right for you. Call JS Family Dental at (214) 548-5400 or book a consultation online.

Fixed and Permanent

Bridges are cemented in place and do not need to be removed. They look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.

Prevent Shifting

When a tooth is missing, surrounding teeth can drift out of position. A bridge fills the gap and keeps your remaining teeth properly aligned.

Restore Your Bite

Missing teeth affect your ability to chew and speak. A bridge restores full function so you can eat your favorite foods with confidence.
